How do I dial local and long distance phone numbers?

The dialing behavior has not changed for local and 10-digit US long distance calling.

  • For on-campus numbers, dial the 4-digit extension number.
  • For local, off-campus phone numbers, dial “3” then the 7-digit local number.
  • For long distance phone numbers, dial “3” then “1” followed by the 10-digit phone number for US long distance.
  • For international long distance, dial “3” then “011” for international long distance. Follow the voice prompts afterwards. It will prompt you to enter the long distance number, followed by the pound sign. For Example: 3 011 44 844 579 6949#

Are all the FreeSwitch VoIP features the same as the previous VoIP phone system?

The most commonly used features that are currently available with the Cisco system are also available with the FreeSWITCH system. The FreeSwitch system provides the following additional features:

  • Simultaneous ring
  • Call blocking
  • Call notification via email
  • Send a PDF as a fax
  • Receive fax to email

If I have a problem with my phone, how do I get help?

If you need help with the FreeSwitch phone system, you have resources available to help you.

  • You can contact the S&T IT Help Desk directly for support.
  • You can submit a ticket online.
  • If you are already logged into the VoIP Web Tools application at https://voiceweb.mst.edu, you can click on the Problem Reporting link from the VoIP Web Tools Main Menu. This link will take you to the online ticketing site to enter a service request.
  • From the VoIP Web Tools Main Menu, click on the User Documentation link to access The FreeSwitch VoIP Getting Started Guide with step-by-step instructions.

Will I need to set up my voicemail greeting again and use a PIN?

Yes, you will need to set up your personal message again. Your previous recorded voicemail greeting will be deleted when the FreeSWITCH conversion is completed. To set up your new voicemail greeting, click on the Message button and then follow the prompts as you normally would.
Note: It is not necessary to have a pin to check your mail locally, or to use the web voicemail interface. However, you will not be able to access your voicemail remotely (from a phone other than the one designated to you) until you configure a PIN.

How do I create a new PIN?

To create a new PIN, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the VoIP Web Tools Application at https://voiceweb.mst.edu and enter your normal user name and password.
  2. At the Main Menu, click on the VoiceMail Web UI link.
  3. At the Voicemail Access window, click on the View/Edit PIN link.
  4. Enter a new PIN in the New PIN field. It must be at least five numeric digits.
  5. Click on the Change PIN button.

Will my voicemail messages still be delivered to my email?

Yes. You will receive an email with a link to the audible message.

If I delete a voicemail notification email, will the message indicator light go out on my phone?

No. The indicator light will go out if the following conditions are met:

  • You check/delete the message(s) from the phone
  • You click on the link in the email notification

When looking through missed calls, why can’t I select ‘dial’ on a highlighted number and have it go through?
