Policies
- Peer-to-Peer
(P2P) and File Sharing Applications -- The University does not
officially support P2P or file sharing, except for specific, business-related
instances.
- Device
Responsibility -- All university students are responsible for using and
maintaining any personal network devices (wired/wireless routers, laptops,
access points, etc) so that they are in compliance with the campus network and
do not interfere with the network.
- Computing
Standards -- Recommended specifications for personal computers used on
the campus network. Older machines may have difficulty accessing some computer
resources.
- Acceptable Use Policy -- All university students are expected to
comply with these standards of conduct. Students who willingly violate these
standards will be subject to disciplinary measures, up to and including legal
action, depending on the severity of the offense. Please behave.

Security
- Antivirus
Software -- All students are strongly encouraged to have an antivirus
software package installed on personal machines. A free download of McAfee
VirusScan (for Windows) and Virex (for Macs) is available.
- Secure
Credential Initiative -- The University is committed to ensuring all
student, faculty, and staff credential information (Single Sign-on User ID and
passwords) are not transmitted over the network in non-encrypted form. Find out
how to configure commonly used applications to keep your Single Sign-on User ID
(SSO User ID) and password safely encrypted.

- Friendly
E-mail Alias -- Don't like your university hash of an e-mail
address? Switch to a more user-friendly alias to pass around to your friends
and family. Note you will still need your SSO User ID to access all
Missouri S&T and UM-System services

From time-to-time, IT gives away free stuff (often called "swag").
Upcoming prize giveaways are announced via the student eConnection and on the
IT Press blog. Prizes in the past have
included iPods, DVD players, 2 GB USB flash drives, and free software.
