Manually Change Power Management Settings

Windows 7

  1. Open the Control Panel by clicking Start > Control Panel.
  2. The Control Panel has two different viewing options.
    • If you are currently viewing your Control Panel in "Category View", select Hardware and Sound
    • If you are currently viewing your Control Panel in "Icons View", simply select Power Options
  3. From Power Options you can customize the MST power configuration by selecting Change plan settings.
  4. From this window you can specify the amount of time that must pass before the display shuts off and the amount of time that must pass before the computer goes to sleep. If you are using a laptop you can set specific values for each of these options when the computer is plugged-in as well as when the computer is on-battery.
  5. If you want to change more settings, click Change advanced power settings. From here you will be able to alter variety of Power Management settings.

Windows XP

  1. Open the Control Panel.
    • If you are using the "Classic" Start Menu click Start > Settings > Control Panel
    • If you are using the default Start Menu click Start > Control Panel
  2. The Control Panel has two different viewing options.
    • If you are currently viewing your Control Panel in "Category View", Select Performance and Maintenance > Power Options.
    • If you are currently viewing your Control Panel in "Classic View", simply select Power Options.
  3. From this window you can specify the amount of time that must pass before the display shuts off, the amount of time that must pass before the hard drive(s) power down, and the amount of time that must pass before the computer goes into standby.

Vista

  1. Open the Control Panel by clicking Start > Control Panel.
  2. The Control Panel has two different viewing options.
    • If you are currently viewing your Control Panel in "Themed View", select System and Maintenance > Power Options.
    • If you are currently viewing your Control Panel in "Classic View", simply select Power Options.
  3. From Power Options you can customize the "MST Power" configuration by selecting Change plan settings
  4. From this window you can specify the amount of time that must pass before the display shuts off and the amount of time that must pass before the computer goes to sleep. If you are using a laptop you can set specific values for each of these options when the computer is "plugged-in" as well as when the computer is "on-battery".
  5. If you want to change more settings click Change advanced power settings. From here you will be able to alter variety of Power Management settings.

Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6

  1. Open System Preferences by clicking Apple Button > System Preferences.
  2. From the System Preferences window, select Energy Saver.
  3. From Energy Saver you can change the duration of time that must pass before the computer goes to sleep and the duration of time before the display dims and eventually shuts off. You can change these setting independently for when your computer is plugged in and on battery by selecting the Battery or Power Adapter tab at the top of the window.
  4. If you want to schedule the computer to take certain action you can click Schedule and change the settings inside the dialogue box that slides out.
