How to Find Your Ethernet Address

 NOTE: Ethernet address, MAC address, physical address, hardware address, and Ethernet ID are all terms that reference the 12 digit alphanumeric code.

Windows

  1. Click the Start button
  2. Type cmd, press Enter
  3. In the Command Prompt, type getmac /v
    1. NOTE: There must be a space between "getmac" and "/v".
    2. NOTE: If getmac /v comes back as an unknown command, type: ipconfig /all
  4. Multiple addresses (MAC addresses) will be displayed in the following format, 00-00-00-00-00-00. Record both your mac address for your ethernet (local area conf) card and for your wireless card.
    1. NOTE: Do not register any Mac address labeled "virtual". Example: Wireless Virtual 00:00:00:00:00:00.
  5. Register both your MAC addresses at itweb.mst.edu/~netdb Indicates that you will be directed to an external site by clicking on the link.
  6. (Optional) Instructions to connect to MST-WPA-N wireless network.

    Mac

    1. Click System Preferences
    2. Click Network
    3. Check to make sure Location is set to "Automatic"
    4. Click Wi-Fi
    5. Click Advanced
    6. Click Hardware
    7. Note your wireless card 12-digit alphanumeric code of the form 00:00:00:00:00:00
    8. Click OK
    9. Click Ethernet
    10. Click Advanced
    11. Click Hardware
    12. Note your ethernet card 12-digit alphanumeric code of the form 00:00:00:00:00:00
    13. Click OK
    14. Register both your MAC addresses at itweb.mst.edu/~netdb Indicates that you will be directed to an external site by clicking on the link.
    15. (Optional) Instructions to connect to MST-WPA-N wireless network.

    iPhone and iPad

    1. Select Settings
    2. Select General
    3. Select About
    4. Scroll down to the Wi-Fi Address, this is the MAC address in the form 00:00:00:00:00:00
    5. Register your MAC address itweb.mst.edu/~netdb Indicates that you will be directed to an external site by clicking on the link.

    Android

    1. Select Settings
    2. Select Wireless and Network
    3. Select Wi-Fi Settings
    4. Select Advanced Settings
    5. The MAC Address is displayed in the form 00:00:00:00:00:00

    Windows Mobile

    1. Click Settings
    2. Click About Phone
    3. Click More Info
    4. Scroll down to the MAC Address

    Kindle

    1. Select Menu
    2. Select Settings
    3. Scroll down to Device Info; the Wi-Fi MAC Address is displayed in the following format, 00-00-00-00-00-00

    Nook

    1. Select Settings
    2. Select Device Info
    3. Select About Your Nook
    4. Scroll to the MAC address

    XBox 360

    1. Select System Settings
    2. Select Network Settings
    3. Connect to a network that doesn't require registration. If you don't connect to a network the MAC address will not display
    4. Go to Network
    5. Select Configure Network
    6. Select Additional Settings tab
    7. Bring down your cursor to Advanced Settings, Host Name, Alternet MAC address, and select it
    8. The MAC address is displayed on the left side of the screen in the form 000000000000
    9. Select Done

    Playstation

    1. Select Settings
    2. Select System Settings
    3. Select System Information
    4. The MAC address is listed in the form 00-00-00-00-00-00

    Wii

    Note: You must be connected to a wired internet network for the Wii to work. The campus wireless network will not work for the Wii even when registered.

    1. Select Settings from the Wii Channel Menu (round button with the Wii on it)

    3. Select Console Settings
    4. Your MAC address is displayed on the first line
